Meet MDOT – Cole Cavalieri
Meet Cole Cavalieri, assistant bridge engineer at the #MackinacBridge Authority (MBA). Cole joined the MBA in February 2020 and works with the chief bridge engineer and maintenance crews to assess conditions and make repairs on the Mackinac Bridge, maintains MBA facilities and records, and coordinates with consultants and contractors who are performing work on the bridge.
Prior to his time at the MBA, Cole worked as a design engineer with MDOT’s Bridge Design Division in early 2019. Before that, Cole began his career with two consultant engineering companies: Coleman Engineering in the Upper Peninsula, where he worked on design, construction inspection and materials testing, and Hardesty and Hanover, where he designed and inspected moveable and long-span bridges. A Michigan State University graduate in civil engineering, Cole grew up in #IronMountain and now calls #Kinross home, where he enjoys the outdoors hiking, camping and trout fishing.
“I really enjoy getting to participate in all of the stages of a project,” Cole said. “I am able to get out on the bridge with the crews and be hands-on while also spending time in the office and working on the design side of a repair. It allows me to work with a lot of different people, and it gives me a deeper appreciation of the level of dedication and teamwork that goes into maintaining this iconic structure at every level.”
