Michigan’s peninsulas unite for 50th anniversary events commemorating Mackinac Bridge milestone

The Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA), in cooperation with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), today announced a special ceremony will be held on Thursday, July 26, honoring Dr. David B. Steinman, designer of the Mackinac Bridge. The 10 a.m. ceremony will take place at Bridge View Park in St. Ignace where MDOT and MBA officials, along with other state and local officials, will unveil a new token featuring Dr. Steinman and the bridge.
The new token is the seventh in a series of bridge toll coins, or tokens, which customers can use to cross the bridge. Collectors and members of the public can purchase coins at the July 26 event.
Beginning Friday and continuing through Saturday, events will include parades, bridge building demonstrations, Great Lakes folk music, food vendors, fireworks and much more. For more details on all of the 50th anniversary-related events, access www.mackinacbridge.org or
