Mackinac Bridge Authority update Wednesday on 2018 Annual Bridge Walk details
Discussion of details for the 2018 Annual Bridge Walk, including review of the new options available to participants in the upcoming event, is among the agenda items for the Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) regular meeting Wednesday on Mackinac Island.
MBA staff will present the board with information on planning efforts for the 61st annual event, including plans to start the walk from both Mackinaw City and St. Ignace and the elimination of busing, and communications efforts to notify travelers the bridge will be closed to public traffic again this Labor Day morning.
The meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Mackinac Island City Hall on June 27. The meeting also will be available to view on the Michigan Department of Transportation’s LiveStream channel at https://livestream.com/MDOT/MBAmeeting062718.
A summary of the walk plans, and changes from past years, is available on the MBA website at www.mackinacbridge.org/walk. The site also includes a video further explaining the different options walkers will have this year.
One thing that will not change for this year’s walk: at the recommendation of Michigan State Police (MSP) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the bridge will remain closed to public traffic during the event. MBA, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and other state agencies will ramp up efforts to inform travelers the bridge will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to noon on Labor Day, Sept. 3, 2018.
