High Mast Lighting Towers Above the Plaza
High Mast Lighting Towers Above the Plaza
The last of four high mast lighting towers is set as the three-year lighting project at the Mackinac Bridge moves one more step forward. Starting in April of 1999 with a scheduled ending date of October 2001, this is the first electrical upgrade in the 42-year history of the bridge. The antiquated equipment that is being replaced includes all street lighting on the bridge and bridge plaza, the cable lights, navigation lights and aviation lights. To complete the upgrade, all transformer stations and emergency generators that support these systems will be replaced.
The engineering firm URS Greiner Woodward Clyde, Inc. is responsible for the design and engineering for the project and J. Ranck Electric is the electrical contractor that is responsible for the installation of all components of this $2.5 million upgrade.
