Mackinac Bridge Authority and MDOT announce selection of new executive secretary

The Mackinac Bridge Authority and the Michigan Department of Transportation today announced the selection of its new executive secretary to replace Henry A. Lotoszinski, who will retire in September 2002.

Effective immediately, Robert J. Sweeney will split his duties between the Mackinac Bridge and his current managerial role for MDOT’s Transportation Service Center in Cadillac. He will then take over the position full time in September.

“Bringing Bob on board before Hank’s departure will ensure that continuity exists in this high-profile operation,” said Mackinac Bridge Authority Chairman Murray D. Wikol. “Bob’s background with MDOT provides a terrific foundation for moving forward with the same customer-service commitment the public has come to expect from our staff.”

State Transportation Director Gregory J. Rosine said Sweeney rose to the top of a very qualified pool of candidates for the position.

“Bob will bring an outstanding level of knowledge with him that will add to our tradition of excellence,” Rosine said. “Hank did a fantastic job establishing that level of excellence. We will miss him.”
Sweeney, a former St. Ignace resident, comes to the MBA with 18 years of experience in a variety of positions in the transportation industry, many with MDOT. He holds a civil engineering degree from Michigan State University and is a licensed engineer.

Sweeney will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the MBA. Oversight and policy decisions will be provided by the six-member MBA board.
