Project: The Mackinac Bridge Authority in cooperation with the Michigan Department of Transportation will temporarily close the Mackinac Bridge on two separate occasions on July 28 for special celebration events commemorating the bridge’s 50th anniversary.

Traffic Restrictions: Northbound lanes will be closed from approximately 11:45-11:55 a.m. and southbound lanes will be closed from approximately 11:50 a.m. until noon for a special parade crossing. All lanes will be closed from 10:20 to 11 p.m. for a unique fireworks display. If necessary, emergency vehicles will be able to cross during the closures.

NOTE: Round-trip shuttle bus service will be provided from the St. Ignace Convention Center (Little Bear East Arena) to the Bridge View Park between 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on July 28 for a nominal $2 fee.

Background: The Mackinac Bridge first opened to traffic on Nov. 1, 1957 after three years of construction.
