Motorists opt for new “Quick Card” at Mackinac Bridge

Robert Kessel of Bloomfield, Mich., is handed the first “Quick Card.”

April 28, 2009 — Since last week, the Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) has been offering a new electronic toll-payment option where motorists can pre-pay the full fare in exchange for the new “Quick Card.” The card allows for a quick transaction at any toll booth and is convenient for customers. Use of the card is expected to improve congestion at the toll plaza during peak times.
“This is a great idea,” said Robert Kessel, the first customer to obtain a new card. “I was driving through the area and heard about the card on the radio and thought it would save me time on future trips.”
The MBA requires an initial deposit of $90 (which includes a fee of $10), in order to issue a new card. Additional deposits in the future must be a minimum of $80. No refunds will be available and the cards will expire five years from the date of purchase.
The “Quick Card” is intended for regular passenger vehicles that are not pulling a trailer.
Anyone interested in obtaining a “Quick Card” should stop in the MBA Administrative Office in St. Ignace, or call 906-643-7600. MBA officials are looking into online ordering.
