Mackinac Bridge Truck Permit
The Mackinac Bridge Authority’s truck permit program provides the opportunity for drivers of certain placarded loads and vehicles weighing over 40 tons (80,000 lbs.) and less than 72 tons (144,000 lbs.) to drive across the bridge without an escort. Permits will be valid for the following placards only: flammable gases (Hazard Class 2): non-flammable, non-toxic compressed gases (Hazard Class 2): and flammable liquids (Hazard Class 3).
Three escorts are required before a permit will be issued. The first two signatures can be signed by the collector in the toll lanes and the third and final signature can be signed inside our office by the Supervisor on duty. If this form is lost, the driver will start over as this is the only record kept. If a violation occurs, six escorts will be required. When the driver has completed the training requirements, he/she must report to the service window in the Administration Building to be issued a truck permit card. A driver must have a Mackinac Bridge Authority permit card in their possession to travel across the bridge without an escort.
Drivers interested in obtaining a truck permit can download and complete the Mackinac Bridge Truck Permit application form. Completed forms can be presented for signatures on their next crossing.
